How to use Kakao T Taxi App in Korea (For Foreigners)

If you’re traveling in Korea and want a quick, safe, and easy way to get around, the Kakao T app is your best friend. It’s Korea’s most popular ride-hailing app, and yes — it supports English!


Of course, in the case of Seoul, the subway system is very developed, so I recommend using the subway. If you use the subway, you won't have to worry about traffic inconvenience.

Nevertheless, in this article, I would like to recommend the best way to use a taxi for travelers in Korea, considering the situation where you can use a taxi. The Kakao T Taxi App introduced now can be used anywhere in Korea, not just in Seoul.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started:


🟡 Step 1: Download the App

  • Search for “Kakao T” in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

  • Install and open the app.

  • It supports English! The app should detect your language automatically, but you can also change it in the settings.



👤 Step 2: Sign In or Create a Kakao Account

  • You’ll need a Kakao account to use the app.

  • You can sign up with your email, phone number, or social media.

  • Once logged in, you’re ready to book a ride.

📍 Step 3: Choose Taxi and Set Your Pickup / Destination

  • The app will automatically detect your current location.

  • Enter your destination in the search bar (you can type in English).

  • Choose from suggested locations and confirm the route.





🚕 Step 4: Choose Your Taxi Type

You’ll see several options:

  • General Taxi – standard, affordable option

  • Deluxe or Blue Taxi – better service and vehicles

  • Venti – large taxis for groups or luggage

  • You can also see estimated fare and wait time.




My recommendation is to choose General Request from many types of vehicles. Other types of taxis are not fast caught and expensive.

💳 Step 5: Payment Options

  • You can add a credit/debit card (international cards usually work).

  • Or choose “Pay to Driver” if you want to pay by cash or card directly.




📞 Step 6: Book Your Ride

  • Tap “Request Taxi” and wait for a driver to accept.

  • You’ll see the driver’s name, car model, license plate, and ETA.

  • You can even track the taxi on the map in real time.


✅ Step 7: Ride and Pay

  • Get in the taxi when it arrives.

  • At your destination, payment will be automatic if you used the app, or you can pay the driver.
